The Fastener Solutions Division of Avery Dennison is a worldwide manufacturer of plastic fastening systems used in the automotive, apparel, retail, industrial and packaging industries. Our three-shift injection molding and extrusion operation is located in Fitchburg, MA. The Fastener Solutions Division is ISO/TS 16949 certified.
The Toolroom Technician performs production tooling processes in support of supplies production manufacturing.Ìý Tooling processes include; cataloging, organizing and performing general maintenance of the punch, die and rotary tooling on all production machinery/equipment.Ìý Maintains ancillary equipment, performs knife sharpening, set-up and building, and expediting tooling repair. YOUR RESPONSIBILITIES WILL INCLUDE:
Activities may include, but are not limited to:
Follow mold and tooling maintenance work instructions to ensure the controlled process of preparing molds and dies for use in the injection molding production environment.
Conduct regular repairs and maintenance as needed and perform preventive maintenance on the injection molds
Disassemble, clean and reassemble complex injection molds.
Convert and change over mold components to support production.
Perform tasks related to mold and die maintenance in a safe and efficient manner.
Maintain all mold and tooling preparation paperwork in accordance with quality standards as outlined in Tool Room work instructions.
Conduct mold troubleshooting as needed. Observe tool condition while cleaning and converting. Document and report findings to Tooling Engineer.
Have the ability to set up and operate mills, electric discharge machine [EDM} equipment, lathes, drill presses, grinders, and use any hand held power tools needed to perform maintenance and repairs on mold, die, and fixture tooling used in the production environment.
Have the ability to follow direction from plant management and the engineering department as well as supervisors.
Possess basic blueprint reading skills.
Perform math calculations and read measuring tools such as calipers, micrometers, height gages, and other instruments used in performing tool room tasks.
Familiar with hot runner manifolds, electrical testing; capable to tear down and completely rewire heaters and thermocouples wiring mold plugs.
Report accidents or mistakes when they happen immediately no matter how small the problem.
Based on business need, assists/supports in other job functions within process or other company processes within scope and ability.
As part of the Tool Room team continue to improve as an individual and help the team to achieve successful goal attainment.
Work closely with engineering and management to identify areas of opportunity for improvement.
Help maintain the Tool Room through 5S initiatives and good housekeeping practices
Familiarity with hot runner manifolds and electrical testing and an ability to tear down and rewire heaters and thermocouples wiring mold plugs is a plus.
Knowledge of stoning and polishing mold article details while keeping required shut off edges sharp
Adhere to all personal protective equipment (PPE) and safety guidelines at all times.
Qualifications
High School diploma or equivalent.Ìý
Three years experience in machine shop operations; vertical milling machines, electric discharge machine [EDM} equipment, lathes and surface grinding machines.
Must be able to follow verbal and written instructions, blueprints, and special order specifications.
Team player with a positive attitude
Good planning, organization and communications skills.
Basic office computer software skills (email, word documents, excel, etc.)
Must be able to use a variety of measuring devices; micrometers, calipers, gauges, etc.
Demonstrated ability to perform math calculations including decimals and percentages.
Good understanding of Class 101 Mold maintenance and upkeep.
Ability to read and understand blueprints and electrical schematics is a plus.
CNC EDM set up and operation experience is a plus.
Demonstrated mechanical aptitude required.
Must be able to bend and stoop constantly.
Must be able to lift up to 50 lbs. and occasionally 100 lbs. with mechanical assistance or the help of another employee.
Must be safety conscious and alert to safety hazards.
Preferred - Three plus years of experience in maintaining or building molds in the plastic industry.
EDUCATION:
HS diploma or equivalent required.Ìý
